The historic town of Midleton in East Cork has its origins dating back to the 12th. Century.Midleton derives its name from ‘Mainistir na Corann’ meaning ‘The Abbey of the Coir’ – a Cistercian monastery destroyed in the 19th. Century.
Midleton is the fastest growing town in Ireland. It is the hub of East Cork, with its rich agricultural hinterland. It is ideally situated – just a stone’s throw from Cork City . It is 17 miles from Youghal and 20 miles from Fermoy.. It has long been renowned for its fine food and drink, award-winning restaurants, old pubs and up to the minute modern lounge bars. We can boast of the best eating and drinking facilities in the country and are the envy of every other town in Ireland. The Jameson Heritage Centre which is renowned world-wide for its very fine whiskey attracts many tourists to our town every year.
We have top class shops and facilities on our doorstep. Every day some new shop is opening – there is absolutely no need for any of us to travel outside of Midleton to shop. Local stores take deposits and special orders and they are experts in their field. With free parking in our town we have unlimited time to shop and browse. Midleton’s retailers and business outlets are a great source of local employment – jobs and livelihoods rely on us dealing locally.
Midleton, traditionally the principal market town of the area offers visitors a wide choice of excellent accommodation with four star hotels, guesthouses and B&B’s. It is the ideal centre for visiting EastCork’s many pleasant beaches and excellent fishing facilities. Golf, sailing, pitch & putt, scenic drives and refreshing country walks provide the tourists with a very full holiday in this area. Visitors can also avail of our very new recently opened state of the art cinema and many enjoy a game of bridge in our local bridge clubs while staying in Midleton.
Local attractions of interest include Cobh, the last port of call of the famous Titanic, Barryscourt Castle, Carrigtwohill, Fota Wild Life Park and of course the renowned Ballymaloe House and gardens with its wonderful food and ambience & also Trabolgan Holiday Centre which is a great facility for family hiolidays and day tours.

The construction of many houses is under way at present to support the several multinational companies working in the area, building should continue for some time to come. Many people now choose to live in Midleton and commute to Cork to their jobs. We have a bus service which is excellent servicing the main route on the hour. We look forward to our railway service in 2008 which will be a great boost to our town.
