Charities & Community Organisations
Brighter Communities Worldwide is a charity with a wealth of experience building sustainable communities in East Africa. Founded as Friends of Londiani in 2002, our model creates an enabling environment for communities to realise change.
Our vision is a world where strong, healthy communities can thrive, building sustainable livelihoods and brighter futures for all.
Our mission is to work in partnership with communities, to deliver programmes that enrich their lives and help create better futures for them and their families.
What makes us different is the way we work with communities at a local level, to empower people to create their own opportunities for a brighter future. We are committed to providing long term, positive change wherever we work in the world, because all communities have the right to create a sustainable future.
Our model creates an enabling environment for communities to realise change and uses a partnership based approach to deliver programmes that meet the needs of communities and individuals. Creating brighter communities means ensuring:
Access to good, affordable healthcare
• Education to help people find a job and be able to articulate their needs
• An income that can sustain a family
• Healthier lives with a supply of clean water and better facilities
• Investing in women and girls to build stronger communities
In Ireland, our office in Midleton, Co. Cork organises & supports fundraising initiatives, looks after administration for the charity, takes care of communications and marketing and runs a volunteer programme. Our volunteers help in the office, organise fundraising events, represent us at volunteer fairs and events and we have an overseas volunteer programme where people go to Kenya as part of team each year and work with the communities there.
My Place is a safe and welcoming place for young people to go. Situated at the old Fire Station on the Mill Road, it consists of a dedicated youth space in the form of a youth café /drop-in centre incorporating a café, recreation area, music room and arts space. It will be open to all teens with an emphasis on youth health awareness, support and information. My Place supplies facilities and meeting rooms for use by the whole community.
